5 Days Bwindi impenetrable and Kibale National Park Safari

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

  • Morning:
    • Early morning departure from Kampala or Entebbe (approx. 8-9 hours drive) to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You’ll travel through the beautiful countryside of western Uganda, passing tea plantations and rolling hills.
    • Stop at the Equator for photos and a short break.
  • Afternoon:
    • Arrive at Bwindi by late afternoon and check into your lodge. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and preparing for the gorilla trekking adventure.
    • Optional: Take a short nature walk to explore the area around your lodge.
  • Accommodation: Buhoma Lodge, Mahogany Springs, or Bwindi Lodge.
  • Meals: Lunch and Dinner.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

  • Morning:
    • After an early breakfast, report to the park headquarters for a briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority guides about the gorilla trekking experience.
    • You’ll set out into the dense rainforest in search of a mountain gorilla family. The trek can take 2-6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location.
    • Once you find the gorillas, you’ll spend one magical hour observing them in their natural habitat.
  • Afternoon:
    • Return to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation.
    • Optional: Visit the Batwa Pygmy community to learn about their traditional way of life or take a nature walk in the forest.
  • Accommodation: Buhoma Lodge, Mahogany Springs, or Bwindi Lodge.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 3: Transfer from Bwindi to Kibale National Park

  • Morning:
    • After breakfast, depart Bwindi and head to Kibale National Park (approx. 5-6 hours drive). This scenic drive will take you through stunning landscapes, tea plantations, and small towns.
  • Afternoon:
    • Arrive in Kibale by late afternoon and check into your lodge.
    • Relax or take an optional crater lake walk in the beautiful crater lake region near Kibale.
  • Accommodation: Primate Lodge Kibale, Kyaninga Lodge, or Kibale Forest Camp.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale National Park

  • Morning:
    • After an early breakfast, report to the Kibale National Park headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking.
    • Head into the forest with your guides to track a community of wild chimpanzees. Once located, you’ll spend one hour with the chimps, watching them interact, play, and forage.
    • Along the way, you may also see other primates, such as red-tailed monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and black-and-white colobus monkeys, as well as a variety of birds and butterflies.
  • Afternoon:
    • After lunch, take a guided nature walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-run conservation area known for its rich birdlife, butterflies, and primates.
    • Optional: Visit a local community project to learn about rural life in Uganda.
  • Accommodation: Primate Lodge Kibale, Kyaninga Lodge, or Kibale Forest Camp.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 5: Transfer Back to Kampala

  • Morning:
    • After breakfast, begin your drive back to Kampala (approx. 5-6 hours drive), passing through the scenic countryside and stopping for lunch along the way.
    • Alternatively, you can take a domestic flight from Kasese Airstrip to Entebbe (optional).
  • Afternoon:
    • Arrive in Kampala or Entebbe in the afternoon, marking the end of your adventure.
  • Meals: Breakfast and Lunch.
